Card Terminal and Cash Register Linking (Italy only)

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Starting 1 March 2026, a new Italian government regulation requires merchants to link their active card terminals (POS) with the tools used to certify sales receipts, such as:

  • Telematic Cash Registers (Registratore Telematico – RT)

  • The web procedure “Documento Commerciale online”

This connection is logical (not physical) and must be registered through the Italian Revenue Agency portal (Agenzia delle Entrate) under “Fatture e Corrispettivi”.

Viva.com terminals is fully prepared to support the new regulation.

Viva.com will:

  • Send the list of active terminal IDs (TIDs) to the Italian Revenue Agency.

  • Provide a transactions report starting from 1 March 2026.

Merchants must:

  • Wait to receive an official email from the Italian Revenue Agency (sent to the email address registered with the tax authority) starting from 1 March 2026.

  • Not take any action before receiving this email.

After receiving the email, merchants will have 45 days to complete the required linking process.

Additional communications will be sent by Viva.com with further guidance if needed.

What Merchants Must Do

After receiving the official email from the Italian Revenue Agency, merchants must:

  1. Log in to the Italian Revenue Agency portal and access the section
    “Gestione collegamenti” (Connection management)

  2. Link each active POS terminal with the corresponding fiscal cash register or fiscal printer.

  3. Provide the required information, including:

    • POS Identifier

    • Fiscal Cash Register serial number

    • Business location address

If multiple acquiring contracts exist on the same POS, multiple connections must be created.

  • 1 POS → multiple cash registers, or

  • multiple POS → 1 cash register

The POS Identifier required by the Italian Tax Agency depends on the type of POS used.
