There are some simple steps you can take to prevent your customers from disputing transactions:
Make sure you use the description field correctly for every item charged. This will appear on customer receipts.
Keep your customers informed about your company's return policy and post relevant information on your website.
Provide as much accurate information as possible about the delivery procedures for your products or services.
Make a contact phone number available for customers to contact you on.
Ensure that you keep as complete a record as possible of transactions.
To protect your business from fraud and unauthorized transaction disputes, ensure that all payments you accept are 3D Secure. This adds an extra layer of security and shifts the liability for fraud or unauthorized transactions to the card issuer.
However, please note that 3D Secure only covers fraud or unauthorized transactions. For other dispute reasons—such as product/service not delivered, cancellations, incorrect charges, or duplicate transactions—the cardholder can still file a dispute up to 540 days after the transaction date.
