Payments via PayPal

The PayPal payment method is available from viva.com to all its merchants. This method allows your customers to make online payments quickly and easily using PayPal from any of their devices.

Key Benefits of Offering PayPal as a Payment Method:

  • Increased Sales: PayPal can make your store more appealing to customers who prefer using PayPal for their online purchases.

  • Expanded Customer Base: PayPal facilitates sales to customers from different countries, allowing payments in various currencies and providing automatic currency conversion for international transactions.

  • Customer Trust: PayPal is a well-known and trusted payment provider. Offering it as a payment option can enhance customer confidence in your store and encourage purchases.

  • Customer Convenience: PayPal simplifies the checkout process, enabling customers to complete their purchases with just a few clicks using their PayPal account or a credit/debit card linked to their account.

This integration also includes the PayPal Pay Later feature, which is enabled by default when PayPal is successfully activated for your account.

User Experience:

  1. During checkout, the customer selects PayPal (or PayPal Pay Later) as their preferred payment method.

  2. The customer is redirected to a PayPal-hosted page, where they login using their PayPal account credentials.

  3. The customer selects their preferred payment method from the list.

  4. PayPal’s Pay Later options are also included here, in addition to PayPal balance, card payment and bank transfer

  5. After clicking Pay Now, PayPal notifies the merchant of the successful transaction, and the customer is redirected back to the merchant’s website.​

  • How to Enable: Refer to the “How to Enable” section below. Activation is immediate, and merchants can start accepting PayPal payments as soon as it is enabled.

  • Payment Method Type: Synchronous – payments are confirmed instantly.

  • Refunds: Partial and full refunds are supported.

  • Recurring Payments: Not supported yet.

  • Pre-authorizations: Not supported yet.

  • Restricted MCCs: Certain merchant categories are ineligible for PayPal activation.

  • Merchant Countries (PayPal): Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.

  • Merchant Countries (PayPal Pay Later): France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK.

  • Customer Countries: All countries.

  • Settlement: Customer payments via PayPal are deposited into your PayPal account (not Viva account) and cleared within 2 hours.

  • Cross-Currency Payments: Supported by PayPal.

  • Additional Notes: PayPal is not available via Quick Pay or for payment orders where the disableExactAmount parameter is set to 'true.'

How to activate PayPal:

Prerequisites:

  • Your PayPal Business Account must be fully approved by PayPal and capable of receiving payments.

  • Viva and PayPal accounts have a one-to-one relationship which means:

    • You cannot link the same PayPal account to multiple Viva accounts.

    • You cannot link the same Viva account to multiple PayPal accounts.

Activation Steps:

  1. Log into your active Viva account.

  2. Navigate to Settings:

    • Click on Settings and select API Access.

  3. Enable PayPal as a Payment Method:

    • In the PayPal section, click the “Enable PayPal as a Payment Method” button.


      A PayPal pop-up will appear.


  4. Sign In or Create a PayPal Account:

    • If you already have a PayPal Business Account:

      • Enter your registered email, select your country, and click Next.

      • Enter your password and click Log In.

      • Confirm your email address if prompted.

    • If you don’t have a PayPal Business Account:

      • Enter the email you wish to use, select your country, and click Next. The Set up your PayPal Business Account window is displayed

      • Create and confirm your password, then click Next. The Please tell us about your business window is displayed

      • Complete the required business details and click Agree and Create Account. Two more windows are displayed requesting details about your business and you

      • Complete the first of these then click on the Next button

      • After completion of the second window, click on the Submit button.
        A confirmation window is displayed stating that you need to confirm your email address to activate your account

      • Go to your email and confirm activation of your PayPal account

  5. Completion

    • Close the window and refresh the Settings > API Access page. You should see a temporary message in the PayPal (Payment Method) section indicating that setup is in progress

    • Nothing else is required from your side, PayPal will appear as a payment method once PayPal approves the integration

Please note:: If you refresh the page again in around 2 minutes or so, the message will update to the below which indicates that the PayPal payment method is successfully set up:

How to Disable PayPal

To disable PayPal on your Viva account, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your active Viva account.

  2. Navigate to Settings:

    • Click on Settings and select API Access.

  3. Locate the PayPal Section:

    • Scroll to the bottom of the page until you find the PayPal (Payment Method) section.

  4. Disable PayPal:

    • Click the "Disable PayPal as a Payment Method" button.

  5. Confirm the Deactivation:

    • A pop-up window will appear to confirm the deactivation. Confirm the action.

  6. Please note: If you refresh the page again in around 2 minutes or so, the PayPal section will be hidden:

Note:

We recommend disabling PayPal via your Viva account to make reactivation easier in the future, should you decide to re-enable it.

How to Reactivate PayPal

To reactivate PayPal as a payment method on your Viva account, follow these steps:

1. If you disabled PayPal via your Viva account:

  • Contact support via Live Chat from your active Viva account.

  • You will need to provide us with your Viva Merchant IDas well as your PayPal Merchant ID or Vendor ID.

    To find your PayPal Merchant ID or Vendor ID:

    • Log in to your PayPal account.

    • From the user menu, select Account Settings.

    • Under the "Business Information" tab, locate your PayPal Merchant ID or Vendor ID.

2. If you disabled PayPal via your PayPal account:

  • Regrant permissions to Viva:

    • Navigate to the Account Access tab and click Update next to API Access.

    • Click Manage API Permissions

    • Click Add a New Third Party.

    • Search for and connect a new third party using your Viva Merchant ID.

  • Contact support via Live Chat from your Viva account, providing your Viva Merchant ID and PayPal Merchant ID or Vendor ID.

After completing the above steps, reach out to the support team via Live Chat on your Viva self-care account. Provide both the Viva Merchant ID and PayPal Merchant ID or Vendor ID to finalize the process.

Customer Refunds

A full or partial refund can be issued to a customer at any time for an order already placed and for which funds have been deposited into your PayPal account. Refunds can be processed via either PayPal or Viva.

Key Points About PayPal Refunds:

  • Refunds update both your PayPal Business Account and the relevant Sales Transaction in your Viva account.

  • Refunds will not appear in the Sales > Sales Transactions page on your Viva account until PayPal completes their processing.

Refunds via PayPal:
To issue refunds through your PayPal Business Account, please see How do I issue a refund? in the PayPal website.

Through Viva
To issue a refund through Viva:

  1. Log in to your active Viva account.

  2. Navigate to Sales > Sales Transactions and use the required date range to locate a list of transactions.

  3. Find the necessary transaction labeled PayPal Charge.

  4. Click the Refund button to open the Transaction Refund dialog box.

  • For Full Refunds:

    • Ensure the "Refund Amount" field matches the original payment amount.

    • Click OK.

  • For Partial Refunds:

    • Ensure the "Refund Amount" field is less than the original payment amount.

    • Click OK.

In both cases, a confirmation message related to PayPal will appear, confirming the refund amount.
